This Cajun spice recipe can be made as spicy or as mild as you prefer for your taste or your family’s tastes. What is Cajun Spice Made up of?
Cajun spice is a blend of herbs and spices that are added to most Cajun dishes. Every chef or cook has their own version of this recipe, (or should) but it basically boils down to these ingredients:
- Paprika
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Oregano
- Cayenne
- Black Pepper
- White Pepper
- Thyme
- Red Pepper Flakes
How do I make Cajun Spice?
Honestly, just measure out all of the ingredients into one bowl and mix well. It is ready to go! If you make a large batch (there is a small and large recipe in the card) keep the rest in an airtight container for up to 3 months. A great idea is to make this and bottle it for your friends and family as edible gifts!
Should I add Salt to my Spice Blends?
Never. When making any spice blend you want to be able to spice up the dish, but add the seasoning/salt separately. This is because any of the ingredients can already be seasoned, such as a cheese or sausage, and this could make your entire dish over seasoned and ruined. Over salted dishes are the worst, especially if you just spent all that time, effort and money making the dish. This Cajun spice recipe is a perfect blend of herbs and spices, the salt will be added as you cook so as to keep the salt content to your liking.
